Omphalos - The Navel of the World

Commissioned by Burning Man founder Larry Harvey. The Omphalos was based on a Classical Greek stone artifact representing the center of the world. Located between the legs of the ‘Burning Man’ this piece was at the exact center of Black Rock City. Without instruction or instigation participants crowded around to reach out and touch the glowing object.

Working closely with Larry, Henry created a cast epoxy piece that look and felt like an ancient polished stone. The interior was meticulously sculpted to have a rough texture to diffuse the pulsating lines of light emanating from within.
